Our new Yamanashi Wine Discovery Private Tour is the perfect way to spend a relaxing day. Travel smoothly by express train, taste amazing local Japanese wines, enjoy a delicious meal surrounded by vineyards, and visit a historic 1,200-year-old temple!
Your tour starts right at your hotel in central Tokyo. Your guide will meet you and help you take the subway to Shinjuku Station. From there, you will board a comfortable Limited Express train bound for Yamanashi.
By taking the train instead of driving on congested highways, you avoid heavy traffic jams and cut down on carbon emissions. Once you arrive in Katsunuma, a private hybrid vehicle will take you around the local vineyards in total comfort!
First, we will visit Katsunuma Jozo Winery, one of Japan’s most famous family-owned wineries. Take a guided walk through the vineyard, learn how wine is made in Japan, and taste their signature Koshu wines—a local grape variety known for its fresh, clean flavor.
For lunch, enjoy a meal at Restaurant Kaze, located right in the middle of the vineyards. They are famous for their tender roast beef, which pairs perfectly with local wines!
After lunch, we will visit Daizenji Temple, built over 1,200 years ago. This temple is famous across Japan as the “Grape Temple” because grape growing in Japan is said to have started right here.
Inside the main hall (a designated National Treasure), you can see a very rare statue of Buddha holding a real bunch of grapes! The temple even makes its own special wine, known as “Buddha Wine,” which you can taste during the visit.
